Home Energy Rating System How does the industry accredited Home Energy Rating System (HERS) software work? Home energy ratings are similar to fuel mileage ratings posted on new cars. Each predicts efficiency based on the product's performance under standardized (test) conditions. Home Energy Rating System (HERS) software calculates an estimate of the annual energy required to operate the home and converts the value into a point rating of energy efficiency, using a scale of 0 to 100. New homes must achieve a minimum rating of 80 points to participate in energy right. |

Homes with 80 or more points qualify for the energy right Program. Higher ratings translate into lower energy costs. Home energy ratings are impressive not only to the buyer or builder, but also to the mortgage lenders. A number of mortgage lenders have already agreed to recognize home in the energy right Program for special financing options. |
